Edition: This is the only known etching by Daumier. “At an evening gathering at the house of Charles de Bériot one of the guests produced a copper plate soliciting each of the artists present to contribute a sketch: Daumier (upper left), Harpignies, Rops, and Taiée. The etching was published for the first time by Champfleury at the head of his ‘Catalogue de L’OEUVRE LITHOGRAPHIÉ ET GRAVÉ DE DAUMIER’ (1878)” (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Honoré Daumier Anniversary Exhibition, 1958, no. 158).
